Beatification of Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko on the Feast of Thanksgiving

00-065 Warsaw, open between 7.30am-9pm
Press tower for photojournalists in Sector 2 for the faithful, at the back of the VIP Sector; a sector for writing journalists in front of the press tower.
7am – Opening of the sectors for the faithful
9am-10.30am – Religious and art programme
10.45am – Entry of the Guard of Honour of the Polish Army, the raising of the flag of the Republic of Poland and of the Vatican, national anthems
11am – 1.30pm Beatification Mass
The celebration will be presided over by a delegate of His Holiness Benedict XVI, Archbishop Angelo Amato, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. Invited guests include Poland’s national authorities, Members of Parliament, representatives of the local and regional government, city authorities, and numerous guests from across Poland and from abroad.
The Holy Mass will be celebrated by 120 bishops and around 2,500 priests. The Holy Mass will begin with the reading out of the document issued by the Holy See on the raising to the glory of the altars of the Servant of God Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko and the arrival of the relics of the new Blessed.

2pm – Departure of the procession from Piłsudski Square
After the celebration in Piłsudski Square, a procession will transfer relics of the new Blessed to the Divine Providence Church in Wilanów. Orchestras will accompany the procession in successive sections of the route. The relics, carried by representatives of parishes and various social groups, will be greeted by the faithful of the parishes located en route of the pilgrimage. All participants of the beatification celebrations are encouraged to take part in the procession.

3pm – releasing ‘Thank you’ balloons into the sky
A joyful vigil in anticipation of the relics: a festival of Christian music, game and recreation facilities for children, a meeting with Archbishop Kazimierz Nycz, special guest – Fr. Leon Knabit
6.30-7pm – Arrival of the procession with Fr. Jerzy’s relics
– official introduction to the Pantheon of Great Poles
– individual prayer
